High Royds Maps

Sitting to the west of Leeds, High Royds is a neighbourhood also known as Highroyds Village, with the official designation of Chevin Park. The area takes its character from its position in the broader West Yorkshire landscape, within reasonable reach of Otley and the Chevin ridge to the north. Its alternative name, Highroyds Village, points to a distinct residential identity, setting it apart from the surrounding urban spread of Leeds.

Character and Setting

The neighbourhood is closely associated with the former Highroyds Hospital site, a large Victorian psychiatric institution whose grounds have since been converted into housing. The resulting development retained much of the original architecture, giving the area an unusual character compared to standard suburban streets. Wide open spaces, mature trees, and the grand Victorian buildings that once formed the hospital complex are now a prominent feature of the residential neighbourhood.

Getting There

High Royds lies roughly ten miles north-west of Leeds city centre, accessible via the A65 corridor that connects Leeds to Ilkley. The nearby town of Menston is the closest rail point, served by trains on the Wharfedale line running between Leeds and Ilkley, making the neighbourhood accessible without a car for those commuting into the city.
